Saddle Up for the Rodeo, Dinosaur Style!

Welcome to the new reoccurring feature on Maybe A Weekend, Photo Roulette. I’ve taken a lot of photographs over the years since I bought my first digital cameras. I’ve always subscribed to the theory that it’s better to get a photo now, then regretting not getting the photo later. Every photo tells a story for me even the most random ones. So from time to time I will post a photo here that may seem pointless, but with a little background will give you a greater idea of the man behind Maybe A Weekend.

For today’s entry…

So the day was July 4, 2006, I was on day four of an eleven day field trip in college heading to Grand Tetons National Park in Wyoming. One of our many stops along the way was Dinosaur National Monument in Jensen, UT. As we drove down to the Quarry Exhibit Hall, we were greeted with the site of a very large green dinosaur statue out in the parking lot. I decided at that moment that I needed to get a photo of it to satisfy my need for roadside attraction photos. But first we needed to visit inside the exhibit hall, so my photo had to wait. Our field trip was often under tight time restrictions to allow arrival at our next destination, so i cut my museum visit short. I ventured outside with some classmates with the intention of getting a standard photo, but one of my classmates said “Why don’t you sit on the dinosaur and let one of us take the photo?” And just like that I was saddled up on a green dinosaur in Utah, so I leaned into the moment and gave my best cowboy impression.

It’s been over 14 years since that small moment in time, but that photo and the associated memories last until this day and probably a decent amount into the future. So never hesitate when it comes to taking that photo and living in the moment.
