Maybe A Weekend Update: Growing the Brand, Mailing Stickers, and Remaining Aggressively Single

Things have been moving along here at Maybe A Weekend, which is exciting because for a while my business strategy was mostly traveling somewhere, taking several hundred photos, and eventually remembering I have a website.

Now there are more people following along, reels reaching beyond my usual audience, and stickers heading out into the world. I’m trying to give this little travel project the attention it deserves while still working a full-time job, planning the next trip, and occasionally pretending I have a personal life.

Some parts are going better than others. Please direct your attention toward the follower count and away from the dating apps.

Apparently, Facebook Was the Party All Along

I’ve been putting more effort into creating reels, experimenting with ideas, and sharing the thoughts that usually pop into my head while I should be doing something productive.

Travel plans. Cruise nonsense. Hotel requirements that start with “a decent bed” and somehow end with “a rooftop bar would be nice.” The ongoing struggle between being financially responsible and checking flight prices for the twelfth time that day.

What I didn’t expect was the reach on Facebook.

Facebook. Of all places.

I thought I was making content for Instagram, but apparently Facebook looked at my particular blend of travel enthusiasm and questionable commentary and said, “We have some people you should meet.”

And here we are.

The page has grown, posts are reaching people who have never heard of Maybe A Weekend, and some of those people are sticking around. Others stop by to explain why I’m living my life incorrectly, which is also engagement, so thank you for your contribution to the operation.

It’s encouraging to see strangers connect with something I created. A photo, a joke, a travel story—something makes them stop scrolling, leave a comment, or follow along.

I still don’t know exactly which reel will take off. Something I spend time thinking through might quietly disappear, while a ridiculous thought I turn into a reel gets passed around like I’ve accidentally said something useful.

Naturally, I’ll continue testing this with more ridiculous thoughts.

The Sticker Department Has Some Notes

The free Maybe A Weekend stickers have become their own little adventure.

I like the idea of something from this project ending up on a water bottle, suitcase, laptop, or wherever somebody decides it belongs. It’s a small way to get the name out there, and it’s fun knowing a sticker might be traveling somewhere I haven’t been yet.

However, the request form has also taught me that a complete mailing address is apparently an advanced academic achievement.

I’m happy to send you stickers. I do need to know where you live.

That feels like a reasonable arrangement.

Missing information, incomplete addresses, and repeated requests have added a little administrative spice to what was supposed to be a simple giveaway. I wanted to spread the brand. I did not anticipate becoming an unpaid address investigator.

Please slow down, check your information, and make sure your address is complete and formatted properly. The form gives you a recap of what you submitted. Take a look before sending your future sticker into postal limbo.

The supply is limited. When the available stock is gone, the form closes again. And the free sticker giveaway will end at some point, so please don’t take it for granted. There is me, some envelopes, postage, and a printer with more influence over my mood than it should have. This arrangement comes with actual costs, even if your stickers don’t.

When your envelope arrives, actually read the enclosed letter. It explains the next step. I put directions in there for a reason, and that reason was not to provide cushioning for two stickers.

I reward loyalty and dedication to helping spread the Maybe A Weekend message. Showing up, sharing the content, putting your sticker somewhere it gets seen, and following through matter to me. The letter tells you how to keep that going.

And show me where your stickers ended up. Tag Maybe A Weekend or send me a photo. Otherwise, I mail them out and spend the rest of my life assuming they either reached you or are enjoying a more extensive travel itinerary than I am.

Watching people share their stickers has been one of the most enjoyable parts of this. It makes the whole thing feel a little more real.

Wanted: A Travel Penpal and Justification for My PO Box

While we’re discussing things sent through the mail, I’m also looking for a travel penpal.

Someone to exchange actual letters, travel stories, postcards, stickers, and miscellaneous little things picked up along the way. I always seem to collect extra stuff while traveling, and some of it deserves a destination beyond a drawer in my house.

Plus, it usually comes with a story. Sometimes a useful story. Sometimes an explanation of how I wandered off on another side quest.

My PO Box is coming up for renewal, and I need additional justification for its existence beyond my “endless” fan mail. The budget committee—which is also me—has questions.

There’s something fun about getting mail that isn’t a bill, an advertisement, or somebody offering to refinance something. A little piece of another place, a handwritten story, or a postcard someone took the time to send would be a welcome change.

If that sounds like your kind of thing, send me an email or a message. Let’s exchange a little travel chaos through the postal service and give that PO Box something to do.

There’s Merch. The Business Plan Is Still Loading.

I’ve also made some random Maybe A Weekend merchandise, mostly to give to my inner circle. Apparently, knowing me now comes with promotional materials. I’m sure they’re thrilled.

But if enough people actually want to purchase some of these random creations, fill up the comments or send me an email. Tell me what you’d be interested in buying so I can determine whether there’s demand beyond people who are socially obligated to tolerate me.

If the interest is there, maybe I’ll open an online storefront. My thought is to offer the merchandise at cost for the first month, giving the early supporters a chance to grab something before I start trying to make money on this operation.

Consider it an introductory period while I learn whether I can run a merchandise department without being defeated by shipping labels.

For now, let me know if you’re interested. Otherwise, my inner circle will continue receiving unsolicited brand loyalty starter kits.

Growing Something While Learning as I Go

Maybe A Weekend started in 2019, and it’s still very much a project I’m building around the rest of my life.

There’s no large team behind it. I’m taking the photos, writing the posts, making the reels, maintaining the website, and mailing the stickers. Somewhere in there, I also need to go places so I have something to talk about.

I’m learning what people respond to, what I enjoy making, and how much time I can realistically give it without turning a hobby I love into another job I resent.

The Facebook page is now monetized, which is a nice step forward. My immediate ambition is to help cover the costs of keeping all of this running.

If it eventually does more than that, wonderful. We’ll find out how humble I remain when my travel commentary can pay a bill.

For now, every share, comment, follow, website visit, and sticker photo helps. There are actual people choosing to spend a little of their day with something I made, and I appreciate that—even when I express it through sarcasm and complaints about address formatting.

Meanwhile, the Dating Apps Keep Me Humble

Just in case growing the page starts giving me too much confidence, the dating apps remain available to restore balance.

Nothing keeps a man grounded quite like having strangers enjoy his travel content while his dating profile sits there like an abandoned storefront.

The brand is attracting interest. My romantic life would like additional time to review the application.

Dating continues to be a collection of attempts that haven’t turned into much. I’m still open to meeting someone, getting to know them, and seeing where things go. A nice dinner, a little conversation, maybe a shared adventure. I feel like these are achievable goals.

Apparently, there are additional terms and conditions.

At least the apps are consistent about keeping me humble and single. That’s a level of commitment I can respect, even if I’d prefer they commit to something else.

In the meantime, I’m not putting travel on hold waiting for someone to join me. I can book the trip, take the photos, try the food, and enjoy myself on my own.

Would it be nice to share some of that with somebody? Absolutely.

Am I going to miss the boat waiting for a reply? Absolutely not.

The Logo May Need a Cruise Ship

Speaking of boats, I’m starting to wonder whether the Maybe A Weekend logo needs a cruise ship.

Cruising has become a larger part of my travel life, and the casino offers have certainly helped steer things in that direction. Being offered comped cruises based on my casino play makes it very easy to start looking at another itinerary.

Then another.

Then suddenly “maybe a weekend” requires an ocean crossing and a discussion with the PTO calendar.

A comped cruise doesn’t mean the entire trip costs nothing. There are still expenses, and casino play involves real money. These are offers connected to money I’ve already put into the casino, so “free vacation” would be doing some heavy lifting.

Then there’s the small geographical inconvenience of living in Arizona. The nearest cruise port is at least five hours away, so getting on a ship isn’t exactly a quick ride down the street. For my cruises, I fly to each port city, which adds airfare, transportation, and at least one hotel night before I even board.

I always fly in at least a day before the cruise. My anxiety already has a full itinerary; it doesn’t need a same-day flight delay and a ship departure working together to finish me off.

So even when the cruise itself is comped, getting myself to that allegedly free vacation still requires a budget. Apparently, the casino has yet to include teleportation in its offers.

But when those offers arrive, they do influence which trips I consider. And lately, the result has been a growing collection of reasons to be on a ship.

I still enjoy road trips, cities, outdoor adventures, and finding somewhere new to eat. The project will keep making room for all of that. It’s just becoming difficult to look at my travel plans and ignore the floating hotels.

A cruise ship in the logo might be less of a redesign and more of an admission.

So, That’s Where We Are

More people are finding Maybe A Weekend. The reels are reaching farther than I expected. The stickers are spreading, provided everyone supplies enough information for the postal service to participate. A potential merchandise store is waiting to find out whether anyone wants to voluntarily wear evidence of this operation, and my PO Box is accepting applications for a more interesting social life.

I’m still figuring out how to grow this into something sustainable, still making time to travel, and still collecting stories worth sharing.

The dating situation remains underwhelming, but the upcoming itineraries look promising.

Thanks for being here, following along, and helping this thing grow. Share a post, send a sticker photo, read that enclosed letter, tell me what merchandise you’d buy, or reach out about exchanging some travel mail. I like hearing about your side quests, too.

And if the logo eventually gets a cruise ship, please act surprised.
